Thomas Pest Control Services‘ President and co-owner Bill Clark has been named one of the Albany Business Reviewit is 40 members of the under 40 class of 2022.

According to the Albany, NY-based publication’s website, “40 Under 40 honors rising stars and people you should know in the Albany-area business community.” These women and men lead a variety of businesses, ranging from some of the most notable businesses in the Capital Region to smaller non-profits or businesses. [one] maybe you are hearing about it for the first time.

Clark started Thomas Pest Services over a decade ago with his wife and co-owner, Sarah. At the time, they only had one employee and ran the business from their basement. The company has since grown to serve more than 3,600 repeat customers who use recurring parasite treatment programs from their homes or businesses. Clark helped grow the company from just $2,000 in annual revenue to $4.2 million in just over 10 years.

Thomas Pest Services is headquartered in Schenectady, NY, with a satellite office in Hudson, NY, which was launched in 2020 to mark the milestone of 10 years in business. The new location has also helped the company adapt during the pandemic and anticipate further growth and change. The company employs just over 40 people, who come from all over the New York Capital Region.

“I watched Bill grow from a salesman to a successful business owner,” Sarah Thomas-Clark said of her husband. “His most impressive quality is his personal appetite for growth and knowledge which fuels his success. He is always learning ways to improve himself and his business.

As an example, she said, Clark recently led the company through the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), which is a “set of simple concepts and practical tools used…in the world to clarify, simplify and realize [companies’] vision.”

“Coming to work every day is exciting. I’m proud of the business I’ve built with my wife, but I love seeing our team grow professionally and personally,” Clark said in a press release. “I am truly fortunate to work with team members who understand the importance of protecting our customers from pest-related destruction and disease. I am honored to be named to the Class of 2022 of 40 Under 40 and only hope to inspire others to work hard towards their goals.

Clark has always had a passion for helping people, according to a press release. He realizes that without people, his achievements would not be possible. Clark said he wanted to use Thomas Pest Services as a catalyst or vessel to do more for the greater good. He wants to allow his company to act as an intermediary for his employees to return home after work and improve their personal lives in some way.

March is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, and the Clarks are hosting a fundraiser to raise awareness. Their daughter Riley, 7, was diagnosed with right-sided spastic hemiplegia when she was 18 months old. While Riley suffered from impaired coordination and fine motor skills, the Clarks note that “she never let her disability bring her down. Riley is a fighter and has weekly occupational therapy and physical therapy sessions to help with her condition.

One of Clark’s biggest goals for 2022 is to launch “Project T,” which will become a way to provide pest control services to those who can’t otherwise afford them, like a veteran who has no not the funds or an older couple who has a bed bugs but are on a fixed income. With support from providers and the community, Clark hopes to create a fund to help pay for these types of services.
